ames P. Whelan, PhD. Professor and Executive Director of The Institute for Gambling Education and Research. The Institute is internationally recognized for being a leader in producing critical research striving understand gambling and intervene when people experience harm due to their gambling. The Institute also operates three treatment clinics across Tennessee (www.thegamblingclinic.com)and has been recognized as the oldest gambling-focused clinic in the U.S. Dr. Whelan has published extensively on a variety of critical questions related to gambling disorder, including prevention, assessment and treatment. He serves on several editorial boards and is the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Gambling Studies, the leading journal for gambling research. Among his recognitions, Dr. Whelan received the 2022 Scientific Achievement Award from the International Center for Responsible Gambling and the University of Memphis award for Engaged Scholarship.
